Why the prices are so much lower

The difference is primarily economic: lower salaries for medical staff, lower operating and facility costs, a competitive market geared towards international patients, and package prices covering treatment and recovery. Many Georgian doctors were trained or studied in Europe; English is widely spoken in private clinics.

The extensive privatisation encourages competition, which raises service standards while keeping costs down.

Dentistry — the most common reason to travel

Georgia is known above all for dental work. High-quality European materials are used, Swiss and German implants among them. Prices are typically fifty to seventy per cent below Western European levels. The range runs from single implants through veneers, crowns and smile design to full-mouth reconstruction.

Fast access instead of waiting lists

Unlike countries with state-run systems, Georgia offers quick access to specialists, often within days, short-notice scheduling for surgery and minimal administrative delay. For many patients that, rather than the price, is the actual reason to come.

What to settle before you travel

From 2026, proof of health insurance is mandatory for entry into Georgia. Foreigners without a residence permit cannot use the state system and, uninsured, pay the full price in advance — even in emergencies, with the exception of stabilisation in life-threatening conditions.

Leading international providers are Cigna, Allianz and Bupa Global. For longer stays a local insurance plan is an option; with a residence permit you have access to limited state care, though private insurance remains advisable.

The nationwide emergency number is 112. Always carry your insurance documents and a copy of your passport when visiting a clinic; specialist appointments usually have to be arranged in advance.
